Evidence shows that consistent physical activity helps prevent chronic disease, improve quality of life, maintain mental health and promote healthy aging. With our new app, you can track any kind of physical activity and convert it into distance to contribute to the challenge. Walking and running can be your primary activity, but you can also try getting more engaged with community events, sports and activities. By focusing on movement, not just steps, we can make sure everyone finds a fun way to compete in the challenge.

The 2025 Challenge begins January 1 and runs through April 13, the last day of APHA’s celebration of National Public Health Week. No matter how big or small your group will be, we make it easy for you to get people moving.

Let’s start a movement for active communities!

The Keep It Moving Challenge supports national health promotion efforts, including the Move Your Way campaign by the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion to educate the public on the second edition of the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans. We’re hoping to create a movement to encourage people to get active every day.

The Keep It Moving Challenge is fun, healthy and a great platform for starting larger conversations about the intersections among community, culture and active living. From Jan. 1 to April 13, we hope you’ll get your community involved in participating in the challenge. We know we can reach our goal of more than a billion collective steps!
